歡迎加入我們的短篇小說讀書會！此雙語讀書會在台北每隔兩個月定期聚集，以指定的語言小組模式來討論短篇作品。 通過我們的趣味暖身活動及引導討論，我們希望參與者可以藉此深化對於文本本身的批判閱讀能力，並且同時探討有關台灣的文學、歷史、政治及文化相關等議題。
Join our Short Story Club! Our Chinese-English bilingual group in Taipei meets every two months to discuss short texts in smaller, language-specific groups. Through our fun warm-ups and guided discussions, we hope participants may deepen their critical reading of the text while exploring literary, historical, political and cultural themes related to Taiwanese identity.

《玫瑰玫瑰我愛你》是一部充斥滿諷刺與幽默的作品，描寫1960年代花蓮的一座小鎮，因傳聞越戰的美國大兵們即將前來休假而陷入一片瘋狂。為了趁機大賺一筆，一位無法制止放屁、極為肥胖、且自傲無比的英文老師——董斯文——串連起當地四大妓院，企圖透過教授英語，來「提升」性工作者們服務的資質。
原本只是一堂速成英語課程，卻演變成一場充滿荒誕滑稽的鬧劇。除了英語之外，董斯文還安排教授國際禮儀與「美國文化」，而這一切的目的，終究都是為了徹底榨乾美國大兵口袋裡的每一塊美金。
Set in the mid 1960s, Rose, Rose, I Love You is a satirical comedy about a frenzy that grabs hold of a town in Hualien, when news of American GIs from the Vietnam war are about to arrive for R&R. Eager to make a profit, a flatulent, chubby and egotistical English teacher, Dong Siwen, organizes the local big four brothels to “elevate” the sex workers by teaching them English.
What begins as a crash course in English evolves into a farcical and elaborate ordeal to teach courses on global etiquette and “American culture,” in order to thoroughly fleece the unsuspecting GI’s.
王禎和於1940年出生於花蓮，畢業於國立臺灣大學外國語文學系。1961年以短篇小說〈鬼・北風・人〉嶄露頭角，隨後成為臺灣文壇的重要作家。他以獨樹一幟的文學風格，巧妙融合了臺灣現代主義與鄉土文學兩大看似對立的文學思潮。 王禎和大部分的作品皆以故鄉花蓮為背景，細膩刻畫鄉村小人物艱辛而充滿韌性的生活。他的文字充滿口語、俚語及地方特色，生動，並呈現臺灣在地的語言特色。
Born in 1940 in Hualian, Wang Chen-ho graduated from National Taiwan University’s Department of Foreign Languages. After his 1961 debut with the story The Ghost and the North Windy Wang emerged as a strong literary figure whose unique voice effortlessly straddled the seemingly contradictory worlds of the Taiwanese modernist and nativist schools. Most of Wang's fiction is set in his hometown and features moving portrayals of the harsh lives of his rural compatriots; his vivid descriptions are rich in colloquialisms, slang, and local color.
