On the 31st January and the 1st February we'll be having the final exhibition of our 2025, Stories from the Station project, a GWR funded project which has been running in our community from April 2025 to Jan 2026. In 2025 we received funding from the GWR Customer and Community Improvement Fund to deliver a multi-art, heritage project, Stories from the Station, exploring the stories of Newquay's railway station to coincide with the 200 year anniversary of the journey of the first passenger steam train, which happened on the 27th Sept 1825. During this project the team at Blystra have worked with multiple partners across Newquay and Cornwall making films, creating performances, offering creative writing workshops and a willow, steam train lantern, which paraded through Trenance Valley, as part of the 2025 Newquay Lantern Parade in Nov 2025.
Come and see what we've been up to during this project, see the willow train up close, watch the films we've made during the project, and learn about the lives of people affected by the railway coming to Newquay. This final exhibition will be a series of elements created by the community, archive details from Newquay Museum and stories of the people in Newquay's past, told by people living in Newquay now.
The exhibition runs for two days on the 31st Jan and the 1st of Feb from 11am to 3pm in the Trenance Cottages, Rose Function room, but will then be moving to Newquay Museum to be exhibited in Jan for a longer period. No need to book a space, just pop in and see what we've been up to during the project.
Trenance Cottages and the Garden Cafe will both be open during the exhibition so make a morning or afternoon of it by visiting the Trenance Cottages exhibition and grabbing something to eat or drink while you visit us.
