Storgårds stjórnar Bruckner 2

Á þessum tónleikum hljóma tvö tónverk í fyrsta sinn í flutningi Sinfóníuhljómsveitar Íslands: Píanókonsert eftir Clöru Schumann og 2. sinfónía Antons Bruckner. Píanókonsertinn hljómar hér í einstakri túlkun Alexöndru Dariescu en konsertinn skrifaði Clara kornung, aðeins 14 ára gömul, sem Clara Wieck. Fáum árum síðar giftist hún tónskáldinu Robert Schumann og tók þá upp hið þekkta eftirnafn eiginmannsins. Önnur sinfónía Bruckners fékk snemma viðurnefnið „Sinfónía þagnanna“ vegna rausnar legrar notkunar Bruckners á þögnum til að skilja á milli formhluta innan verksins. Í síðari gerð verksins hafði Bruckner fækkað þögnunum umtalsvert og stytt en nafngiftin hélt sér engu að síður. Með þessari sinfóníu má segja að Bruckner hafi stigið stórt skref í að fullkomna tök sín á hinu sinfóníska formi. Finnski hljómsveitarstjórinn og fiðluleikarinn John Storgårds stýrir Sinfóníu hljómsveit Íslands á tónleikununum en hann mun einnig leika einleik á fiðlu í þremur litlum rómönsum eftir Clöru í hljómsveitarútsetningu Bernards Rofe.

This concert will feature two pieces performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for the first time: Piano Concerto by Clara Schumann and Symphony No. 2 by Anton Bruckner. The piano concerto will be played in the unique interpretation of Alexandra Dariescu. The concerto was written by Clara Wieck when she was only 14 years old. A few years later, she married the composer Robert Schumann and took her husband's well-known surname. Bruckner's Second Symphony was nicknamed the "The Symphony of Pauses" due to Bruckner's generous use of pauses to separate formal elements within the work. In the later version of the work, Bruckner had significantly reduced the number of pauses and shortened them, but the name remained, nonetheless. With this symphony, it can be said that Bruckner took a major step in perfecting his mastery of the symphonic form. Finnish conductor and violinist John Storgårds conducts the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at the concert, and he will also perform the violin solo in three little romances by Clara arranged by Bernard Rofe.
