About this Event

Join Chicago Ridge Emergency Management in Stop the Bleed training

Did you know it takes 3-5 minutes for the human body to suffer life-threatening blood loss? The average EMS response time is 7-10 minutes. Traumatic injury and blood loss accounts for 40% of deaths in the US.

Stop the Bleed training is a public education program that teaches everyday people how to recognize severe bleeding and take fast action to save a life before professional medical help arrives. It focuses on three core skills: applying direct pressure, packing a deep wound, and using a tourniquet.

What the Training Covers

Direct Pressure: Using hands and clean cloth or gauze to press hard on a bleeding wound to slow or stop blood loss.

Wound Packing: Filling deep cuts or holes in the arm or leg with gauze before applying pressure.

Tourniquet Application: Placing a tight strap around an arm or leg above the bleeding site to cut off heavy blood flow.

Free tourniquet will be provided upon completion of the class
