Stone Lithography: Drawing on Stone & Edition Printing
About this Event
Two weekends of classes starting August 22nd-August 30th
Discover the traditional art of stone lithography through this intensive four-day workshop. Participants will learn the fundamentals of drawing and printing from Bavarian limestone while gaining an understanding of the unique relationship between grease, water, stone, and ink that makes lithography possible.
Working from hand-drawn imagery, students will learn lithographic drawing materials, image development, stone preparation, etching, proofing, registration, paper preparation, and edition printing. Through demonstrations, collaborative printing, and individualized instruction, participants will complete an edition of approximately 15 black and white lithographs while gaining experience with professional printshop practices and editioning methods.
Enrollment is limited to five participants, allowing for individualized instruction and dedicated access to studio equipment. No prior lithography experience is required.
Previous printmaking experience is helpful but not necessary.
[Note: please bring an additional materials fee of $20, paid directly to the instructor on the first day of class.]
