Stone Carving Workshop for Teens - October 10th
About this Event
Put down the screen and pick up a chisel! Join us for a hands-on Stone Carving Workshop designed specifically for teens. In just three hours, you’ll go from learning about the ancient geology of Indiana Limestone to carving your own masterpiece using professional hammers and chisels. No experience? No problem. We provide all the gear and expert instruction to help you unlock a new skill and take home a piece of history that you created yourself. Discover the satisfaction of making something real. This 3-hour workshop is offered to teens 13-17.
Most of our lives are spent clicking, scrolling, or solving problems on a 6-inch screen. This is the opposite of that. It takes a different kind of brain to solve a problem in 3D. You have to see the finished shape inside the block before you even start.
This workshop will allow teens to step into the shoes of the legendary carvers who built the Empire State Building and the Pentagon using nothing but hammers, chisels, and raw Indiana limestone. It’s 300-million-year-old rock—literally crushed sea creatures from an ancient ocean, and the carver will bring it new life. It’s physical, it’s dusty, and if you mess up, there’s no 'undo' button. When you hit that chisel just right, you feel the vibration all the way up your arm. The tapping sound of the hammer becomes mesmerizing. You start to see the history in it—how this same rock is what makes the Soldiers & Sailors Monument look so massive.
Participants will take home a piece of Indiana history they carved themselves. Not many young people can say they’ve done that!
