Samtal på Pride House med David Sheppeard (UK) & Ulricha Johnson, verksamhetschef Scensverige
How do we protect queer culture in the face of rising political hostility?
The UK is facing a national moment of crisis for LGBTQIA+ arts and culture. Over the past five years, artists, organisations, and venues across the UK have increasingly faced anti-LGBTQIA+ backlash—from hateful online comments and in-person protests to event cancellations and threats to safety. These experiences are not just individual challenges; they represent a coordinated attempt to dismantle the infrastructures supporting queer culture. Curious Arts in partnership with Fatt Projects and Marlborough Productions have been leading on BACKLASH: A Queer Cultural State of the Nation to create a snapshot of this situation and how we move forwards collectively. David Sheppeard from Marlborough Productions will reflect on seventeen years of queer cultural practice with Marlborough Productions through this shifting political landscape and what learnings can be shared across borders.
