Join the VCU Humanities Research Center for an event with Denise Walters, Ph.D., Tribal Council Chair of the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia and HRC Karenne Wood Native Artist-in-Residence to explore how the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia preserves history, identity, and community through the art of story quilts. Drawing on traditional and contemporary techniques, quilting serves as both a cultural archive and a modern creative practice that connects generations, honors Nottoway experiences, and keeps traditions vibrant in the present day.
