About this Event

In A Christmas Carol, Mrs. Cratchit's Christmas pudding is a symbol of festive cheer and togetherness for the Cratchit family.

Join us for an afternoon of festive fun and culinary heritage with Sam Bilton, renowned author, food historian, and presenter of the Comfortably Hungry podcast. Dive into winter traditions as Sam guides us through the process of making traditional Mrs. Cratchit-style victorian Christmas puddings, based on a family recipe dating back to 1871. We'll also make some festive truffles to enjoy together.
Throughout, we'll explore the multicultural heritage of the plum pudding, and the connection between food, heritage, rituals and the natural world.
Sam says: ‘When I’m not writing about our culinary heritage you will find me in the kitchen probably with my nose in a vintage cookbook. I also love talking about the food from our past which is just as well as I often get asked to provide talks, cookery demonstrations and appear on television and radio.’
Sam will be bringing pudding basins for everyone to take away their pudding. If you prefer, you can bring your own - it should be a 500ml pudding basin or retro equivalent.
Please note that there is a ticket fee for members to cover the cost of ingredients for this event.
