Meet the artist behind the sweetness

Wayne Thiebaud (1920–2021) became widely recognized in the early 1960s for his vibrant paintings of cakes, pies, pastries, ice cream cones, and candy. His signature style features rich, thick brushstrokes, bold colours, and distinctive shadows that make familiar desserts almost leap off the canvas. Although often associated with Pop Art, Thiebaud developed his own painterly approach to everyday subjects.
