This course is designed for learners of all levels who wish to explore the versatile medium of acrylic paint to create stunning paintings. Whether you're a beginner eager to learn the basics or an experienced artist looking to refine your skills, this course offers a comprehensive and hands-on approach to still life painting in a contemporary style.
Guided by an experienced tutor, you will learn to blend and mix colours, create striking compositions, and use brushstrokes that convey movement and vitality. Our focus on a fresh and contemporary style will inspire you to break away from traditional methods and experiment with bold, expressive forms and vibrant palette.
- Artist research and examples of contemporary still life paintings
- Practice colour mixing to achieve a vibrant palette
- Surface preparation and sketching
- Painting techniques: layering, impasto and glazing
- Complete a painting on canvas
- Protect your painting by varnishing it
By the end of this course, you will have created a painting that reflect your unique artistic voice and a newfound confidence in your ability to paint a still life composition with a contemporary flair. Learners will complete at least one work on canvas. They will have fun by experimenting with the palette knife and become more confident in using acrylics
You will need:
- Acrylic / Watercolor paper/sketch pad, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, acrylic paint
- Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,
- Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),
- Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),
- Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white
The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
