Stewardship Saturday: Valley Stream (Stream) Cleanup-Rainboots Recommended

About this Event

This Saturday we will be going to Valley Stream State Park to participate in a stream cleanup.

This program is available for all ages and with parental supervision for those under 14.

Time: 10:00am to 12:30pm

Parking Instructions: Parking is very straightforward. The entrance to the park leads directtly to the lot. We will meet at the southwest corner of the parking lot closest to the park office.

Backround Information: While we usually focus on removing invasive plants and planting native pollinators, occasionally we take a small detour to help with park support projects like the greenhouse at Nissequogue. Valley Stream has requested volunteers for a staff-lead stream cleanup along, well, Valley Stream! We will be supplying garbage bags, tools, and a limited amount of rain boots. Please try to bring your own if possible. We may split up into different groups along the stream to cover more ground depending on how many volunteers we have.

Natural Hazards: Even inside/along the stream there is always a risk of ticks, so please take the necessary precautions: Light pants tucked into your socks. Poison Ivy may also be present so we will have pre and post-contact solutions available for volunteers.
