Stewardship Saturday: Navigating the Intricacies of Rehabilitation
Schedule
Sat Mar 29 2025 at 10:00 am to 02:15 pm
UTC-07:00Location
Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue | Petaluma, CA

About this Event
Join Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue and The Marine Mammal Center as we explore the similarities and differences in our terrestrial and aquatic rehabilitation facilities. Through this event we will navigate how to solve situations related to negative human and wildlife interactions, how to minimize habituation in a hospital, and how to create engaging enrichment for patients in care. We hope by the end of this event you will have a stronger understanding and appreciation of what you can do to prevent animals from having to come to a rehabilitation facility, how to improve a patient’s time at a rehabilitation facility, and will have some goals for next steps to take on your conservation journey.
We can sign for Community Service hours if you need us to!
Free lunch and snacks will be provided
Accessibility notes:
- Both organizations are rehabilitation facilities – there will be no petting or feeding the patients except in one specific zone (please see this site to see some of the animals present in this petting/feeding zone)
- The tour portion of the morning is not ADA compliant - the path is a mulch-like material (like a trail) – this portion will entail about 90 minutes of walking/standing
- Working with hands to create enrichment out of foods, scent bottles, tree parts, and more
- Working and communicating in small groups with youth you may not know
- Some animal traps and stories will be shared, which can be emotionally upsetting to some
- Most of this event will take place outside
This event may be cancelled due to weather conditions. We will notify you the week of the event if this happens.
Parking notes:
- Free parking is available.
- Driver note: Adult drivers of youth are welcome to drop youth off and come back at the end of the event. We do ask that youth attend the events without adults to allow for opportunities to meet others interested in conservation. All organization staff are certified to work with youth.
Primary language event will be spoken in: English
