Steve Sedergreen & Friends
with Special Guest Vocalists Jacki Gaudion & Mark Zanotti
Do not miss this great jazz outfit featuring some of Melbourne's best jazz musicians; this lineup is built on history, chemistry and serious musicianship. A central figure in Melbourne jazz for decades, Sedergreen brings his unmistakable touch to the piano alongside James Clark and Rod Gilbert — a rhythm section grounded in feel and experience.
Steve Sedergreen is one of Melbourne’s most respected jazz identities. Over the decades he has earned a formidable reputation a jazz pianist, arranger and educator. Founder of the genre-defying group Mistaken Identity, for years a powerhouse of contemporary jazz playing across the country and earning an APRA nomination. He has performed at many major festivals, curated Dizzy’s Jazz Club (1999 -2006) and mentored members of the next generation of Australian jazz talent - including members of The Cat Empire, Axle Whitehead and Paris Wells, to name a few.
This show at the Duke of George will feature two special guest vocalists. Jacki Gaudion is a rare and special singer, with an uncanny vocal resemblance to the late, great Renee Geyer. She possesses exceptional timing, delivery and storytelling, all drenched in the blues. Ex-AFL (West Coast Eagles) Mark Zanotti, now a bourgeoning crooner, comfortable across both jazz and rock, will deliver a great selection of up-tempo and memorable tunes.
Ash Gaudion is prominent Melbourne-based jazz and roots saxophonist and vocalist. Best known as a founding member and frontman of the popular swing and vintage party band The Shuffle Club, he has been a core fixture of the Australian live music scene for over two decades.Trumpeter Toby Mak was part of Steve's Mistaken Identity for years and Steve calls him "one of the best trumpet players in the country”. He has recently returned from 20 years in Shanghai where he shared the stage with some of jazz’s greats on tour in China, including Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Expect to hear a great selection of well-know jazz tunes, this promises to be a night of jazz like no other. If you’re not a jazz fan already, you will be after this! This is a band of players who know the language - moving between swing, soul and contemporary jazz with ease, and with the kind of interplay that only comes from years on stage.
