Step out at Smithills - Nature and History Community Walk (June)

On the first Wednesday of the each month, join our guided walk leaders for a community walk. This June, step back in time with volunteer Peter Hargreaves to explore the History of Barrow Bridge and Higher Shores Clough and learn about the people who once lived and worked in this now tranquil landscape. There are spectacular views along the way over Bolton and Greater Manchester. See if you can find Beetham Tower, Jodrell Bank and even, on a clear day... the welsh mountains!

How to get to the Event:

By Bus:

Catch the 526 to Barrow Bridge from Bolton. Exit the bus at Barrow Bridge Bus Terminus and take a short, two‑minute walk straight ahead to Barrow Bridge Car Park.

By Car:

Park at Woodland Trust Barrow Bridge Car Park, Bolton BL1 7NH.

Further information:

• This walk will be cancelled if there is severe weather. Please check your emails on the day/morning before the walk and ensure you come in weather-appropriate gear.
• No children under 18.
• Dogs on leads are welcome.
• This walk is approx. 2 hours, ~5km and is partly on footpaths and partly on uneven ground. It’s moderate with some slightly challenging parts. This walk is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
• Please bring water and refreshments for the journey if you need them.
• Barrow Bridge can have poor phone signal, please plan your route ahead of time.
• Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues before the start of the walk, e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc
• Barrow Bridge car park has 50 spaces and is free.
• Limited spaces are available for our events, if you can no longer make it, we appreciate you letting us know.
