Baltimore whispers still of that melancholy October evening when Edgar Allan Poe was found wandering the streets in Baltimore. His death remains a riddle upon which history has never rendered its verdict. Was it the calculating hand of the envious Rufus Wilmot Griswold, whose venomous pen, covered up the details of his death and deliberately defamed Poe? Or did Elizabeth F. Ellet, ever at the center of whispered intrigues and the source of scandalous "anonymous notes" push Poe to the brink?
