STC PRESENTS: The Sound of Music running May 9-11 and 16-18 of 2025. Director/Orchestra Director: Kevin Hart

Auditions are February 22nd with 1 hour slots from 9-5. With children’s auditions at 4pm. If that slot doesn’t work, contact us at [email protected]. Everyone should prepare a selection to sing that shows off their vocal range and style. If you choose not to use a selection from the show, please make sure your song is in the style of the show and no longer than a minute. Everyone will be asked to read and there will be a movement/dance portion within the hour as well.
Rehearsals will start March 18th and will be Monday-Thursday at 6:30pm with a few weekend choreography rehearsals for 16 Going on 17 and The Waltz/Laendler.

Here is a breakdown of all the characters:
Maria Rainer (Soprano, 20s-30s): A postulant at Nonnberg Abbey – young, free spirited, warm, gentle and kind with much determination.
Captain Georg von Trapp (Baritone, 35+)� A retired Austrian naval captain. Polished, yet very military in the way he runs his life to repress his sadness over the death of his wife; underneath, he is warm, understanding, and determined.
Max Detweiller (tenor/baritone, 30+)� Charming and vital; a man of sophistication who enjoys the good life; true and loyal friend to the von Trapp family.
Elsa Schrader (mezzo soprano, 30s-40s)� A baroness of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified and mature.
Mother Abbess (legit soprano, wide vocal range, 40+) �Motherly, understanding, strong and authoritative, but kind.
Sister Berthe (alto, any adult age)� Mistress of Novices, prudish, strait laced with a quick tongue, she is less tolerant than other nuns.
Sister Margaretta (mezzo, any adult age) �Mistress of Postulants, very kind, understanding and concerned.
Sister Sophia (soprano, any adult age) �Neither demanding nor critical, sticks with the rules.
Franz (non-singing, 30+)� The von Trapp butler, rather formal but not without spirit, he is very German and loyal to the Fascist cause.
Frau Schmidt (non-singing, 30+)� The housekeeper, stoic, very little personality; she does her job efficiently but without affection. Strong and somewhat dominating.
Herr Zeller (non-singing, 40+)� Stern and unsmiling, a typical Nazi official whose primary concern is to see that everyone toes the line.
Rolf Gruber (tenor, appears 17) �Suitor to Liesl, telegram delivery boy, later Nazi soldier. A very pleasant young man, somewhat aggressive but in a gentle way.
Liesl von Trapp (mezzo, appears 16)� The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.
Friedrich von Trapp (appears 14) �Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family.
Louisa von Trapp (appears 13) �Rebellious attitude.
The 4 youngest Von Trapp children will be cast from children’s auditions. There will be NO CHILDRENS CHORUS
Kurt von Trapp (appears age 10, falsetto)� Gentle and mischievous.
Brigitta von Trapp (appears age 9) �Smart, reads a lot.
Marta von Trapp (appears age 7)�Very sweet and gentle.
Gretl von Trapp (appears age 5-6)
The youngest of the children
Male chorus members (all adult ages) – Nazi soldiers, neighbors, Salzburg �citizens and Georg’s friends (of naval background).
NOTE: All Male Chorus Members only sing 3 measures of “So Long, Goodbye” the whole show and can mainly be non-singing parts as they will be doing VERY LITTLE singing.
Female chorus members (all adult ages) – Nuns, Salzburg citizens, and contestants in the Festival Concert. The female chorus numbers are mainly the nun/church choir songs. Even if you are not cast as a nun, you may be asked to sing these parts back stage.
Several male and female chorus members will be dancers in the party scene near the end of act 1. There will be a movement and brief dance portion of the audition
