Jamie New is sixteen and lives in public housing in Sheffield, England. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in, he’s terrified about the future and he’s going to be a sensation. Inspired by a true story, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is an award-winning hit musical for today. Supported by his loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and steps out of the darkness and into the spotlight.

-The character descriptions below refer to the characters as written and are intended to provide context for each role. They are not intended to describe or limit the performers who may be cast.
-A South Yorkshire accent blend will be used for this production and under the direction of staff dialect coach.
-Auditions for Pupil (*) roles & Jamie are open to persons 15+. Mandatory parent/guardian permission required to accept a role if offered.
-All other roles are open to persons 18+.
Our casting process is committed to equitable treatment and seeks to be as inclusive as possible. All roles are open to performers of all races and ethnicities, with the exception of Pritti* and Fatimah*. These characters are written as Indian Muslim young women who wear hijabs throughout the duration of the show. To respectfully honor these characters and the original intent of the production, these roles should be filled by performers who can reasonably and respectfully represent these identities.
We welcome performers of all gender identities and expressions and encourage everyone to audition for the role that best suits their talents, abilities, and interests, regardless of the character descriptions below.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
-Jamie New* (16 | Vocal Range: D3–B4) — LEAD
A bright, witty sixteen-year-old who dreams of attending the school prom in a dress. Funny, resilient, and courageous, Jamie learns to embrace who he is despite the challenges he faces.
-Margaret New (Late 30s–Early 40s | Vocal Range: D3–F5) - SUPPORTING LEAD
Jamie's loving single mother. Hardworking, compassionate, and fiercely protective, she is Jamie's greatest champion.
-Ray (Late 30s– Early 40s | Vocal Range: C4–E5)
Margaret's lifelong best friend. Warm, humorous, and supportive, Ray is a steady source of encouragement for both Margaret and Jamie.
-Laika Virgin (18+ | Vocal Range: G2–A♯4)
A glamorous and charismatic drag queen who performs alongside Jamie's drag family.
-Tray Sophisticay (18+ | Vocal Range: G2–D♭5)
A polished, confident drag queen.
-Sandra Bollock (18+ | Vocal Range: G2–A#4)
A witty drag queen with a strong stage presence.
-Miss Hedge (30s–40s | Vocal Range: D3–E5)
Jamie's Careers teacher. Practical and well-intentioned, she struggles to see beyond conventional expectations but ultimately wants the best for her students.
-Dean Paxton* (16 | Vocal Range: G2–F♯4)
Jamie's classmate and school bully. Popular, athletic, and often cruel, though his bravado masks deeper insecurities.
-Pritti Pasha* (16 | Vocal Range: F♯3–E5) - SUPPORTING LEAD
Jamie's closest friend. Intelligent, thoughtful, and quietly confident, she is a gifted student who supports Jamie with honesty and kindness.
-Fatimah* (16 | Vocal Range: A3–A5)
One of Jamie's classmates and a member of the girls' friendship group. Confident, kind-hearted, and quick to stand by her friends.
-Becca* (16 | Vocal Range: A3–E5)
A lively member of Jamie's year group. Outspoken, energetic, and enjoys being part of the social scene.
-Bex* (16 | Vocal Range: B♭3–E5)
One of the girls in Jamie's class. Bold, confident, and full of personality.
-Vicki* (16 | Vocal Range: A3–E5)
A popular student who enjoys being at the centre of the excitement. Spirited and expressive.
-Sayid* (16 | Vocal Range: C3–D♭5)
A classmate with a dry wit and a level-headed outlook. A valued member of the student ensemble.

One of the boys in Jamie's year. Confident, playful, and part of Dean's friendship group.

A member of Dean's group of friends. Easygoing, energetic, and enjoys joining in with the crowd.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie contains mature themes and moments of scripted intimacy. Please review the following before auditioning:
The production includes a scripted kiss between Jamie* and Dean*. Intimacy will be staged collaboratively with the actors and creative team, with respect for performer comfort and established boundaries.
Performers cast as Tray Sophisticay, Sandra Bollock, and Laika Virgin may wear drag padding, shapewear, and visible undergarments as part of their costumes during one scene.
The production contains a scene depicting a physical assault motivated by homophobia, as well as other moments of discrimination and prejudice.
The script includes language portraying homophobia, misogyny, misandry, and racism, including the use of slurs. This language is presented in context to reflect the characters and themes of the story and does not represent the values of this production.
The show explores themes of identity, self-expression, bullying, family conflict, discrimination, and acceptance.
Performers may be asked to dance in heels or drag footwear if cast in one of the drag roles. Training and rehearsal support will be provided as needed.
