Join us at the Speaker Series, where a wide variety of engaging speakers share valuable knowledge and insights on the well-being and sustainability of the Cowichan watershed, located within Quw’utsun territory. Each event is a wonderful opportunity to learn. The March 17 speaker will be Jedson Tsusqun August, a traditional canoe builder and racer, and Quw'utsun knowledge-keeper. Join us for stories and sharing about the Quw’utsun Sta’lo’ (Cowichan River) and its waterways. Like so many other daily activities and cultural practices, collecting the materials to build a canoe or paddles took Jedson all over the watershed. Take a journey of the watershed through his eyes and words!
We are excited to share that Jedson plans to bring one of his canoes into the classroom!
The Speaker Series is hosted by the Cowichan Watershed Board, with the support of Vancouver Island University Cowichan Campus, the Real Estate Foundation of BC, and our generous speakers. We are grateful for Elder T'uwahwiye’ Philomena Williams who opens each event with a welcoming lesson. We host approximately 6 events annually, always on Monday evenings in the VIU-Cowichan lecture hall,... always free. Check the website for upcoming dates and speakers. https://cowichanwatershedboard.ca/speakers-series/
