State Support for Community-Led Housing

The Housing Agency, with the support of Self Organised Architecture is hosting a series of webinars on community-led housing. Community-led housing encompasses a wide range of approaches to housing, but they all share a common goal – to meet a local housing need via collaboration, empowerment and mutual support.

This webinar series aims to raise awareness of community-led housing as a form of housing in Ireland, to showcase examples of it in other countries and to reflect on the future of community-led housing in Ireland.

Each webinar will feature presentations from international and Irish speakers with an audience question and answer session at the end. The webinars will be hosted on Zoom and the recordings will be made available on The Housing Agency’s YouTube channel.

There are four webinars within the series, each focusing on a different element of community-led housing.

Session 1: Introducing community-led housing

Speakers:

· Tom O’Donnell - Co-founder and director of Self Organised Architecture

Session 2: Community-led housing as affordable housing

Speakers:

· Eduard Cabré Romans - International Relations Consultant at the Barcelona Municipal Institute for Housing and Renovation (IMHAB)

· Ailbhe Cunningham - Socially Engaged Architect, CCLT Steering Committee member

· Eve Olney - Socially Engaged Creative Producer, CCLT Steering Committee member

Session 3: Community-led housing for age friendly living

Speakers:

· Maria Brenton - UK Cohousing’s Senior Cohousing Ambassador

· Anne Connolly - Co-founder of Cohousing Communities Ireland

Session 4: State support for community-led housing

Speakers:

· Elke Seipp - Director of urban planning at Hamburg Baugemeinschaften Agency

· Éadaoin Ní Chléirigh - Director of Development Operations, Irish Council for Social Housing
