About this Event
State of the South is more than a report or convening—it’s a space to connect, spark solution-focused conversations, and build community across the South.
Join us for State of the South: Jacksonville, to bring together Southerners around art, policy, data, & shared community.
The Black Jacksonville Collective (Dana Maule - Northside Pride, Kelsi Hasden - Rooted, Vic Alexander, Sam Alexander and Larry Wakefield - Elevated Media) will be featured panelists during the **March 12th** convening.
Host, Kamilah Pickett, will facilitate the conversation with The Black Jacksonville Collective, where they will build attendees' understanding about how to document local stories, help attendees understand the connection between local journalism, art, storytelling, policy and narrative change.
Climate and development pressures are exacerbating economic and social challenges for Southern communities. In this convening, we will explore and highlight strategies for preventing land and housing loss, disaster recovery, wealth-building, and celebrating the cultural ties and traditions that ground us.
Attendees can expect sessions focused on Southern history and data exploration, disaster recovery, community organizing, and storytelling. We will celebrate local artists and share visions for a healthy, thriving South. More information on the Agenda, Speakers, and Venue Details will be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates!
