About Our Speaker
Spencer Michels has been a trusted voice in journalism for over four decades. A San Francisco native, Michels began his career with the Palo Alto Times and later moved to KCRA in Sacramento, where he reported on stories ranging from the Vietnam War to global healthcare systems. In 1983, he began reporting for PBS NewsHour while anchoring and producing for KQED.
A graduate of Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Michels joined PBS NewsHour full-time in 1991. He has since produced hundreds of reports on topics including health, environment, politics, and the arts, earning multiple Emmys and other accolades. Michels resides in Marin County with his wife, Roberta, and has three grown children and three grandchildren.
