Starting the Conversation: Sexuality & Intellectual/Developmental Disability is a general workshop that covers a lot of ground. People labelled with disabilities are sexual beings like all human beings but often have their access to education, healthcare and privacy gate-kept to a higher degree for various reasons.
This workshop asks participants to identify what they want regarding sexual and reproductive rights for those they support. Using this rights-based framework, the workshop explores personal bias and the impact of organizational policies on sexual rights.
Tools and activities are demonstrated to address privacy, boundaries, consent, and gender/sexual diversity. There will also be group practice with a sex positive framework to respond to sexuality topics as they come up.
This workshop is for anyone who supports those living with intellectual/developmental disabilities and wants to start having conversations about sexual and reproductive health.
