Starting Points Monthly Open Mic

Starting Points is a monthly, Oakland-based reading and open mic series that aims to promote the writing of emerging and diverse poets and writers. We strive to select features who represent a range of voices from the Bay Area’s literary scene, with an emphasis on the voices of queer and BIPOC writers. At every event we highlight two featured readers and put at least one new/emerging writer front and center. We also offer 10 open mic slots which attendees can sign up for at the event, and we often tap our open-mic performers to come back and feature as another way of highlighting new voices.
