Stargazing with Walter Trentadue

Saturday, September 19, 7:00 - 10:00 pm CT
Mount Saint Francis Prairie
Share your knowledge or begin your stargazing adventure! Check out the stars and night objects with a telescope, away from the city lights and on the edge of the Mount Saint Francis Prairie. Once your eyes are properly dark-adapted, a clear sky with no prominent moon is a showy splendor with bright spots, voids, and intricate rivers of light. Depending on the time of year, a subtle band of smoky light constitutes the outline of our galaxy.
Bring your telescope or share one of ours! Meet at Mount Saint Francis, 3390 Windsor Avenue, in the parking lot behind Francis House. People of all ages are invited to attend; children should be accompanied by an adult. In case of inclement weather, the program will not be held.
Walter Trentadue taught continuing education astronomy for over 20 years at both Rock Valley College, Rockford, IL, and Harper College in Palatine, IL. Based on his independent research, he has published over 25 peer-reviewed papers on astronomy. He operates his own small business, Celestial Wonders Revealed, which is devoted to multi-faceted astronomy education, and he conducts public programs at the Galena Territories under the auspices of the Galena Astronomical Society (which he founded in 1999 and has directed ever since). Walter’s interests range from astronomy and optics/telescope making, to law enforcement, management, and teaching of organizational behavior, meteorite hunting, geology, and chess.
Free-will donation only; RSVPs are required for attendance. Please RSVP online at shalomretreats.org or by calling 563.582.3592 by noon on Friday, September 18.
