For the past three months, Sara Bjarland has worked in the project space at Willie. Before moving out, she will present her work in a one day studio exhibition on Sunday 8th February.Sara is interested in the material traces that we leave on the planet. In her sculptures and installations, she uses discarded objects to reflect on issues like overconsumption and pollution, death, decay and care. While working at Willie, old mattresses, floor tiles, dead plants and firework remains have found their way into the studio. These objects, which are generally seen as worthless, have been treated with care and attention to reveal new, alternative meanings.
Sara Bjarland is a Finnish-Dutch artist based in Amsterdam. Recent exhibition venues include the Helsinki Biennial, Kiasma Museum for Contemporary Art, Beaufort Triennial, CODA Apeldoorn, Omstand, Paltz Biënnale and Tallinn Art Hall. In March 2026 she will start a 3-year residency in Ekenäs, Finland.
