Standing up to Antisemitism (In-person & Online)

This session will:

• explore the context and history of Jewish people in the UK and beyond.
• Provide clarity on what antisemitism is within the context of racisms more generally such as anti-Muslim and anti-Black racism, and their roots in eugenics and bad science.
• Explain how to stand up against antisemitism in society and in education specifically.
• Improve understanding of and differentiate between seperate concepts Jewish, Israeli and Zionist.

This session will draw on Penny’s lived experience as a Jewish, dual British-Israeli citizen who taught in Jerusalem schools for a decade.

Location: Jocelyn Bell Burnell Lecture Theatre, Schuster Building (number 54 on the campus map).

The talk will take place in person. There will be an online attendance option, the Teams link will be provided in the calender invite.

Biography: Dr. Penny Rabiger was a teacher for ten years in Primary and Secondary schools. She works with a range of grassroots, third sector, public sector and educational organisations on their racial literacy as part of her independent researcher and consultant portfolio. As an Associate at The Centre for Race, Education and Decoloniality at Leeds Beckett University, Penny designs and delivers racial literacy training and is Lead Coach for the Anti-Racist School Award programme. Penny completed her PhD in 2025 with an ethnographic study, which sheds new light on how teachers and leaders at schools in England experience a process of unlearning structural racism.
