Class Details:
Stand Up for Your Health is an evidence-based program designed to help older adults reduce sitting time by standing up and moving more. It's important to know that Stand Up is NOT an exercise program. Rather, it's a program to help people to stand more and for longer periods of time. The program meets once per week for two hours, for four weeks, followed by a Booster Session at Week 8. Sessions take place in a group setting where participants identify barriers to standing more and discuss strategies to increase their standing time.
8 weeks. 8 hours. Feel better and do more!
Stand Up is shown to reduce sitting time by 68 minutes per day.
In addition, it is proven to:
- Reduce problems performing daily activities
- Reduce pain interference and intensity
- Improve energy levels and functional performance
- Improve general overall health
In just four weeks, you'll learn:
- How much sitting time affects you and your health
- The benefits of standing
- Strategies to stand up and move more
- How to set and stick to goals to stand up and move more
- How to identify and address barriers
Stand Up For Your Health is best for people who... *
- Are aged 55 and older
- Sit for more than 6 hours per day
- Are able to stand up without assistance from another person
