Celebrating 75 years of Bridport’s Town Band
Join St Swithun’s Band Bridport for a very special evening of music as we celebrate an incredible 75 years at the heart of Bridport’s community.
Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Church, Bridport, this anniversary concert will celebrate the band’s past, present and future with an exciting programme of brass band music – from much-loved favourites to spectacular showpieces.
Making the evening even more special, we are delighted to welcome Hannah Plumridge, Principal Cornet of the world-famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band, as our guest soloist. Hannah will perform a selection of stunning solos alongside the band in what promises to be one of the highlights of our 75th anniversary year.
75 years of Bridport’s Town Band
Since 1951, St Swithun’s Band has been entertaining audiences across Bridport and the surrounding area. From concerts and community celebrations to local shows, festivals and traditional town events, the band has been a familiar part of Bridport life for three quarters of a century.
Now in its 75th year and under the musical direction of Harry Bassett, the band continues to grow, develop and look towards an exciting future. Alongside an increasingly busy programme of performances, St Swithun’s has established its own Training Band, giving people of all ages the opportunity to learn a brass instrument and become part of the next generation of the band.
This concert is both a celebration of everything the band has achieved over the past 75 years and an exciting glimpse at what comes next.
Our Guest Soloist – Hannah Plumridge
Originally from Brixham, Devon, Hannah began playing at the age of seven and has since established herself as one of the leading cornet players of her generation.
A graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Hannah enjoyed an outstanding decade with the Cory Band before recently joining Grimethorpe Colliery Band. In 2026, she performed as Principal Cornet at the Welsh Area Championships, where she received the Ian Williams Award for Best Principal Cornet.
We are thrilled to welcome Hannah to Bridport to help us mark this milestone.
