Come and find Bat & Moths on St. Patrick's Island.
About this Event

Step into the shadows and discover the incredible nightlife of St. Patrick’s Island on July 24th from 10 - Midnight! Join us for a fun and family-friendly evening exploring the fascinating world of bats and moths.

We’ll set up a special moth-lighting station to attract a dazzling variety of nocturnal insects, perfect for up-close observation and learning about moth diversity during National Moth Week. At the same time, you’ll get the chance to use real bat detectors that pick up the high-frequency calls of bats swooping through the evening sky.

You’ll learn how to identify local bat species and hear firsthand how these night-flyers help keep ecosystems in balance.

What to Expect:

  • Moth viewing at a light station
  • Bat detectors to hear real-time echolocation
  • Nature experts on hand to answer your questions
  • A laid-back, interactive evening suitable for all ages

What to Bring:

  • A flashlight or headlamp
  • Bug spray
  • Something cozy for a cool summer night
  • Your curiosity!

These walks are presented in partnership between East Village and Nature Calgary, with all registration fees being donated directly to Nature Calgary.

Parking: Please note that if you are parking on the street you can pay for your session at any of the parking payment kiosks. If you are parking in the lot, you can only pay for your session using the mobile app from Calgary Parking Authority (https://www.calgaryparking.com/paying-for-parking/mobile-app.html)
