π ST FRANCIS DOGS HOME IS COMING TO DOG WORLD π
Saturday 11th April from 10am until 3pm

St Francis Dogs home is a well established rescuer of dogs in Newquay. They currently rehome around 200 dogs per year, primarily via their fostering system, though they now have new onsite kenels to try cope with huge demand.
They will be sending a team of volunteer staff to Dog World to hold an open day with a purpose of hoping to find more fosterer's from the east mid Cornwall area.
I think most people would be surprised to hear it feels like atleast once a month we get an enquiry at Dog World asking if we can suggest how and were they can rescue a dog from, adding that they have tried all the usual places, but have had unsuccessful applications.
Of course this may well be for legimate safeguarding reasons, but quite often its because of age of applicants, or if they have grand children, or the size of their garden or fences doesn't fit a criteria.
So our response has evolved into asking if they have considered fostering, and we have been surprised by how many people have said no, because they may not be able to cope with the heart brake of giving a dog up once a permanent home has been found.
But we think this requires an adjustment of thought.
Their are some subtle differences to criteria of who can be accepted as a fosterer from places like St Francis, it is actually a bit more on a case by case basis, and if you are accepted and all is good with the care and responsibility you can supply, and of course love, its highly likely you would be in pole position to apply for permanent rehoming.
You also whilst being a fosterer are helped with a huge amount of cost.
Whilst being a fosterer, you would be expected to have good communication with St Francis, regarding health, behaviour, any training requirements etc.
You would be required to bring the dog into their center in Newquay where their own in-house staff would carryout any help for the dog that was required.
If you attend on Saturday 11th April, you will be able to have an informal chat about if your own personal circumstances could be suitable for any of their dogs.
Or they could just answer any questions you may have about fostering.
There's no need to book, just turn up when it's convenient to you, between 10am and 3pm
