St. Anne's Taste of Spain
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kenosha, WI (September 13, 2026) – St. Anne’s Parish is proud to announce the launch of the Taste of Spain, an inaugural, premier event designed to celebrate culture, cuisine, and community in the heart of Kenosha County. The Taste of Spain features an evening of exceptional Spanish-inspired food, entertainment, and hospitality.
"We decided to transition our parish’s traditional Winter Social into a new summer event. Our goal is to create a community-building, Christ-focused gathering that brings together parishioners and the wider community. We chose a Spanish theme to honor our group of pilgrims who will be hiking over 200 miles on the Camino in Spain this July," says Ed Burnett, Taste of Spain Chair.
Spain has a diverse, rich cultural and religious history that the event hopes to capture. The country is known for its many cafes and bars lining plazas of downstreet streets for neighbors to enjoy a variety of “tapas” served fresh daily. With the aim of bringing together parishioners and the wider Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie communities, the Taste of Spain is poised to become one of the region’s signature annual experiences.
St. Anne’s Pastor, Fr Robert Weighner reflects fondly on his personal experiences studying abroad in Spain: “Since Spain holds so many memories for me, I was excited to support the Taste of Spain at our parish. This event will not only bring familiarity with excellent Spanish cuisine but also point to her rich ecclesiastical heritage.
So many impactful saints have lived in that land and defended the glory of God with great passion. I hope that through this event, many will come to enjoy reading and praying through St. Téresa of Jesús (Ávila), St. John of the Cross, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and many others, with their unique expressions of Catholic devotion and the spiritual life.”
Guests will enjoy authentic cuisine prepared by Olde Madrid, live flamenco music and dancers, an olive oil tasting experience, a homage to the Spanish saints and cultural heritage of Spain, and a live auction featuring exclusive items and experiences. Olde Madrid is located in downtown Racine and serves traditional Spanish cuisine for lunch and dinner, as well as catering.
“We are honored to team up with St. Anne’s to support their fundraising efforts and to enjoy an evening that celebrates the delicious food and warm hospitality that Olde Madrid is known for,” says Co-Owners Natalie and Manny Salinas.
With a limited capacity of only 250 attendees, the event is intentionally designed to offer an intimate, high-quality experience that blends cultural immersion with community connection. Tickets are priced at $100 per person, and due to limited seating, early purchase is strongly encouraged.
Taste of Spain is expected to attract food enthusiasts, cultural explorers, community leaders, and residents seeking unique and engaging local experiences. As interest grows, organizers anticipate strong demand for both tickets and sponsorship opportunities.
“It is sometimes said that the stomach is a pathway to the heart,” Weighner says, and so, “I hope that the Taste of Spain at St. Anne will bring many to know of this great culture, which, at its best moments, has pointed us to the heavenly and eternal banquet in the Kingdom of God.
