Since the promulgation of Bishop Thomas Olmsted's Apostolic Exhortation, Into the Breach, the concerns laid out have developed - some for the better and some for the worse.
Mike Phelan will speak to these signs of the times and point to steps every father and son can take to be, to raise, and to become the men our Church and world need in the midst of our current challenges.
Speaker Bio: Mike Phelan married up, as they say, and in addition to overall graces from his marriage to Sharon, six children were born, among these five boys. The existential emergency of needing to figure out how to father young men has given Mike his personal mission of first seeking answers and now teaching and encouraging Catholic men to live authentic masculinity, particularly the noble call to marriage and family life.
He is a grateful graduate of the University of Dallas and the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Studies at the Catholic University of America — two educational institutions that still seek to produce the opposite of C.S. Lewis’s forewarned “men without chests”.
Recently, Mike left service in the Diocese of Phoenix where he was blessed to serve alongside Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted as Director of Marriage and Respect Life and assisted in the development and promulgation of Into the Breach — the bishop’s 2015 exhortation to Catholic men, which has been translated into 14 languages.
He is a periodic columnist for Columbia magazine and the Catholic Sun. He now serves as Director of Fraternal Leadership Formation for the Knights of Columbus, part of the Leadership Formation Team tasked with renewing the lay leadership effort of the Order’s founder, Blessed Michael J. McGivney.
