In this TRAINING CLASS Rismi will teach delicious, authentic Sri Lankan dishes followed by a sit-down meal.
About this Event

Our talented new cohort of Migrateful chefs are wrapping up their initial training and getting ready to hold their first cookery classes to the public.

This training class will be led by Chef Rismi from Sri Lanka at the in Clerkenwell, London.

Please note, during these training classes, we will be testing the dishes, and how the class runs. Think of it like a technical rehearsal at the theatre. This means it may run for longer than a normal class and involve some stop/starting. Our Chef Development team will also be present to guide and observe, along with volunteers who will help support the chef, and we will ask for your feedback at the end of the class.

A sample menu of the dishes that will be taught includes:

  • Chicken Devil| Meat (Chicken); Gluten (Wheat), Milk, Mustard, Soya, Sulphites
  • Aubergine Moju| Vegan; Celery, Mustard
  • Sri Lankan Vegetable Soup | Vegetarian; Celery, Gluten (Barley), Milk
  • Green Bean Curry | Vegan; Mustard
  • Ghee Rice | Vegetarian; Milk, Tree Nuts (Cashews)
  • Watalampan | Vegetarian; Eggs, Tree Nuts (Cashews)

This menu contains meat (chicken). Allergens include: Gluten (Wheat), Milk, Mustard, Soya, Sulphites, Celery, Mustard,Tree Nuts (Cashews), Eggs. Kindly note that we will not be substituting any ingredients to accommodate dietary needs, so please only book into classes that suit your dietary requirements. Please be aware that while all allergens listed above have been identified as being in this menu, traces of all 14 allergens will be present in this training class.

Throughout the class, Chef Rismi will share stories about his food and culture. You’ll work together with other participants to prepare each of the dishes, before sitting down to share a meal together.

A message from our Chef Rismi:

“My name is Rismi and I am from Sri Lanka. I am a passionate home cook, sharing the vibrant flavours and tradition of Sri Lankan cuisine. In Sri Lanka, food is more than just a meal, it’s a celebration of culture, family and connection and I am very excited to share these special traditions with you.

Cooking has been an important part of my life from a very young age. My father was a cook and although I did not receive formal culinary training, I learned by watching him and through many years of self-teaching and practising in my own kitchen. Over time, cooking became one of my greatest passions.

Before moving to the UK, I worked in a different profession. But my love for cooking and sharing food has always stayed with me. I now live in the UK with my wife and children and I enjoy bringing the tastes and traditions of Sri Lanka to new friends and communities.

In my class, I will guide you through authentic Sri Lankan recipes, using aromatic spices, fresh ingredients and techniques that you can recreate at home. My classes are warm, friendly and suitable for everyone. Together, we will create delicious food and explore the rich tradition behind each dish.”
