The famous Rath Yatra symbolizes universal brotherhood, equality, and inclusiveness of the highest order. The colors of the sibling Deities (black for Sri Jagannatha, white for Sri Balabhadra and yellow for Devi Subhadra) represent the colors of the human beings on Earth. Symbolically, the Ratha (chariot) represents the human body. Yatra (journey) is the journey of life. Sri Jagannath is seated in the chariot as the soul of the body. The charioteer is buddhi (intellect) and the mind is its bridle. The senses are horses. With perfect control, unity and coordination among these four - the soul, senses, mind and buddhi the chariot festival can be observed; the ultimate goal of human life can be realized.
