This free, family-friendly event is open to all! Join us for a day celebrating small but mighty squirrels and learning about their impact on ecosystems!📅 Saturday, March 28, 10 AM to 2 PM
📍 UW Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, at 10th and Lewis Street
✨ 10 AM to 2 PM: Family-friendly activity tables and crafts such as "Squirrels around the world", "Trap and track a stuffed animal squirrel," "How to build a midden," and more.
🗣️ 11-11:15 AM: Talk from Lauren Watterau, squirrel researcher and UW graduate student. Followed by Q&A.
"Why it’s a good thing squirrels are literally everywhere”
🗣️ 12-12:15 PM: Talk from Lindsey Mitchell, squirrel researcher and UW graduate student. Followed by Q&A.
"Small Mammals, Big Roles: Biodiversity Across a Human Modified Rainforest"
✨ Squirrel adventures outside every ~hour
🗣️ 1:15-1:45 PM: Talk from Haub School Dean Dr. John Koprowski! Followed by Q&A.
🎨 10 AM to 2 PM: Crafting with UW Art Museum
and visit with UW Museum of Vertebrates
Hosted by graduate students Lauren and Lindsey, in coordination with the UW Biodiversity Institute. Lauren and Lindsey have a passion for biodiversity conservation outreach and both study squirrels around the world. Both are recipients of the 2025 Enhancement Grant from the BI!
