Created and hosted by writers David J. Roth and Patrick Sauer, Squawkin’ Sports is an ongoing series featuring book chats with authors who write about playing games. This month, Roth and Sauer chat with sports journalist Mike Sielski, author of Going the Distance: Stallone, Philly, and the Story of Rocky, and journalist and editor with Defector Media Lauren Theisen, author of Every Time a Bell Rings: The Legacy of It's a Wonderful Life, America's Most Beloved Holiday Film.
Going the Distance is the unfiltered origin story behind one of the most inspirational films of all time and beloved piece of American pop culture: Rocky. This is more than a book about a movie. It’s a love letter to a great American city—and a dramatic, fascinating ride all its own.
Paired with the perfect holiday gift: a fond and nostalgic cultural history of It's a Wonderful Life—Every Time a Bell Rings celebrates the beloved holiday film's actors and creators, its unexpected journey from public domain to holiday classic, and what its enduring legacy reveals about America.
