Join us as Squawk takes flight with a night of poetry by local open mic performers and our headliner, Louise Exactly. What is Squawk?
Squawk Spoken Word is a new monthly poetry night in Barrow-in-Furness giving local poets the chance to share their work and hear others on a regular basis. Poetry nights have become increasingly popular in Barrow and Squawk hopes to build upon this as it starts to spread its wings. Squawk aims to platform local poets and spoken word artists while also bringing emerging names from across the country to perform in Barrow.
Squawk Spoken Word is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
Meet The Headliner - Louise Exactly
With work rooted in word-witchery and the working class, Louise Exactly (she/her) is a poet from Wigan, near Manchester. In performance she explores the synergy between poetry, voice and movement in a way that makes the ugly beautiful and the mundane fantastical.
Louise’s poem, ‘I Want My Country Back’ went viral in August 2025, receiving over four million views within days of its release. The poem was written in reaction to the displaying of thousands of flags in towns and cities across the UK.
Louise Exactly, also known as Louise Fazackerley, has appeared on BBC 1, as well as BBC Radio 3 and 4, performing her work to millions of people and talking about issues surrounding poetry and northern life.
She has supported ‘The Bard of Salford’ Dr John Cooper Clarke on tour and her work has been hailed by several of the UK’s best poets and literary icons.
The launch of Squawk Spoken Word will mark Louise’s first time performing in Barrow-in-Furness having previously headlined Verbalise at the Brewery Arts in Kendal and having worked most recently with the Wordsworth Trust as part of their education work.
'a class act...we love her and so will you' - Dr John Cooper Clarke
