Spruce Creek Mound Hike

The Volusia County Explore Volusia program invites you to join Environmental Specialist Tommy Nordmann for a hike on the Overlook Trail at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve and enjoy spectacular views of Spruce Creek. Along the way, we’ll discover the history of the Spruce Creek Mound and its significance to the people who once lived here.

** Important note: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to complete a waiver. Waivers must be completed in full to participate in the program.

ACTIVITY: This will be a moderate hike with a few short climbs in elevation.

RESERVATIONS: Required. Unless you have a confirmation email, you are not registered.

TICKETS: No printed ticket is necessary.

AGES: Ages eight and up are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

ATTIRE: closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing for the outdoors

WHAT TO BRING: water, bug spray, sunscreen

** Some of our trails have mud and/or standing water because they are located in wetland ecosystems and because of seasonal rains and high tides. We recommend you bring a pair of waterproof boots in addition to your regular hiking shoes if you don't want your shoes to get wet. Our hike leader will let you know the condition of the trails prior to the start of the hike.

FACILITIES: There is a port-a-let on site but no running water.
