About this Event

On rainy spring nights - when the temperature is around 40 degrees- amphibians will make their annual woodland pond migration to breed. With perfect conditions, there can be hundreds, even thousands of amphibians (enthusiasts call these "Big Nights"). However, when crossing busy roads, most do not survive, unless we help!
The Wallkill Valley Land Trust (WVLT) is looking for volunteers to help us in our ongoing partnership with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Amphibian Migrations and Road Crossing Project. The AM&RC Project, or Amphibian Migrations & Road Crossings Project, is a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) initiative that relies on volunteers to help amphibians safely cross roads during their spring breeding migrations, gathering crucial data on these events to inform conservation efforts like habitat connectivity and preventing mortality from vehicle collisions. The AM&RC Project needs volunteers to count migrating frogs and salamanders as they emerge as well as help them, well, cross the road! There are several upcoming training sessions coming up- check them out and register today!
