On March 19th, local historian Jeff Clevenger will present a lecture on George Washington and the French & Indian War. Jeff’s speech will focus on Washington’s early life and career in Virginia, and how his involvement in the French and Indian War shaped his life, characters and beliefs before he became America’s leading patriot.
On April 30th, the Library will welcome Denise Cummins and Maria Piatt from the David Bradford House. The Bradford House is a historic site in Washington County, PA focused on the life of pioneer David Bradford and the Whiskey Rebellion. Denise and Maria will discuss the Whiskey Rebellion and its impact on American, and Pennsylvania history.
The series will conclude on May 28th with a joint presentation from Bill Lehman and Stewart Saylor of the local Sons of the American Revolution chapter. Bill will provide information about the SAR’s efforts to create a Revolutionary War monument. Stewart will then provide a talk about Jacob Shallus, the “Man Behind the Quill” who served as the engrosser of the original Constitution of the United States.
This speaker series is funded in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, a PCA partner.
