About this Event
Interested in learning more about decorated sugar cookies?! Kristi's Cookie Kitchen is here to help! In this 1.5-hour class, we'll cover the basics to sugar cookie decorating (so – yes, it’s beginner-friendly!), do some piping practice with Royal Icing, talk about how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies! Everything you'll need is provided at class along with a live in-person instructor – just bring a smile (and maybe an apron).
We’ll be decorating with a spring fun theme – from worms (don’t worry – these you’ll want to eat) and flowers, birds and rain boots – you’re going to love gettin’ your feet wet in this sugary garden with me!
You'll leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies plus a few cool techniques we'll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, credits, and FAQs are below - looking forward to having you with us.
About this Class
This class is for the beginner cookier or for the person who is just curious about what cookie decorating is all about! If you have limited experience with sugar cookies, found yourself frustrated with royal icing, or if you're trying to have fun with family or friends, this is the class for you! We will be doing a fun set that tastes amazing and will look even better once you’ve completed your decorating!
We provide everything you will need, from cookies, icing, sprinkles, and a box to take your awesome creations home in - we just need YOU! Each to-be-baker gets 6 cookies, 4 icing colors, sprinkles, and all the tools necessary to knock this cookie class out of the park! Everything is prepped right before class – so no baking or icing mixing required. Just decorate!
This class is on Saturday, March 28, 2026 and starts at 10:30AM - 12:00PM Noon sharp so we can have enough time to decorate and answer along the way. Come by yourself, bring your best friend, or bring the family - we have seating for up to 12 people! It's a blast whether you're coming with a friend, family member, or solo!
This class is good for ages 6 and up, but if you'd like to leave the kiddos at home, purchase an add-on kit (more on that below)! The kits are great for kids at home, plus - we'll send you the class PowerPoint so you can teach them yourself!
The class will be held at Alley Kat's Curiosity Shoppe in Valparaiso, IN located at 1515 Roosevelt Rd, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Nervous about the parking situation? Don’t be! Parking is pretty easy -there's a few parking spaces in the front of the building, ample parking to the side of the building, and additional parking at the school right across the street in case the lot at Alley Kat's gets too full.
Things to Bring
Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here’s the things we recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience!
· Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it).
· Bring your glasses! There’s a reference slide deck to help you decorate, but if things get blurry far away, seeing glasses may be a great bet.
· Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so bring a phone!
· Bring a mask if you’d like! These classes follow the state health guidelines, but if you’d like to wear a mask throughout class – please do!
Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference
DIY / Add-On Kits
Order your sugar cookie class kit and take the class home with you to teach a child or friend! These class kits come with everything you'll use in class, and I’ll email you the class PowerPoint so you can follow our step-by-step instructions from home! Cookie Class DIY Kits are created before your class, and you'll pick them up and take them with you after class.
How long can a kit last? Depending on how you store your icing, your kits can last for 7-10 days. Freezing cookies keeps them fresh for a long time, but I recommend using your kit as soon as possible - ideally in the first week after you've taken it home. Cookies are sealed for freshness – but again, use it in under a week to make sure it tastes the best.
