One of Eastern Iowa’s biggest and most anticipated used book events returns this spring. The Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library will host their biannual Big Spring Book Sale April 10–12, 2026, offering thousands of books at bargain prices and an enjoyable shopping experience.Known for its well-organized, thoughtful layout and exceptional selection, the Big Spring Book Sale brings together nearly 10,000 current and classic titles in one convenient space — making it one of the best book‑buying opportunities in the region.
Shoppers will find an impressive mix of almost‑new releases, mysteries, biographies, children’s books and other genres on every topic, and a standout selection of “giftables,” beautiful books perfect for giving. Whether you love recent releases, can’t resist a cookbook or want to stock up on classics, this sale delivers something for every reader. It’s no wonder shoppers often say, “I can’t believe the prices!” You should believe it; the sale offers great books at great prices.
The three‑day sale spans two floors at the downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 Fifth Ave. SE. Hours are:
Friday, April 10: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Saturday, April 11: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Sunday, April 12: 1–5 p.m. (Box Day — fill a box for $10)
All children’s books are $1 each. Most other books are $1, $2 or $3. A curated selection of premium giftable books, classics, book sets and collectibles will be individually priced.
Proceeds support the literacy programs of the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library and the Friends’ $250,000 pledge to the Inspiring Big Dreams westside library capital campaign.
