Spring Bloom: Natural Soap Making & Essential Oils

Wake up and smell the flowers during this hands-on 1.5 hour natural soap design workshop taking place inside the intimate and dynamic vintage boutique in the heart of wine country–Nostalgia. It’s perfect for scent lovers interested in learning how to create fresh and aromatic spring inspired personalized soaps without the use of synthetic fragrances, colors and additives. These bars are the perfect personalized gift yourself or someone special!

You’ll be guided by Brenda Brown an experienced artisan soap maker specialized in creating soaps using natural botanicals, oils and clays. And will experience an immersive demonstration on the art and science behind cold-process soap-making and basic perfumery. You’ll get hands-on as you formulate a custom spring blend using delicate floral, zesty and grounding essential oils that cater to emotional, mental and physical well-being. You’ll then decorate a visually charming mini-batch of cold-process soap using vibrant spring florals and enchanting botanicals to match the spirit of your soap.

As your batch sets for transport and at-home curing, you'll have the chance to satisfy your curiosity by perusing all that Nostalgia has to offer! • An exploration of different scents and the creation of a unique essential oil blend for overall mental, physical and emotional well-being.
• A freshly made moisturizing soap base with conditioning ingredients such as Organic Shea Butter and Organic Olive Oil to customize and enjoy.
• A fabulous spread of aromatic florals, spices and herbs to decorate individual batches.
• Take-home gift packaging and an informational sheet to care for and share your creation.
• Close guidance from a knowledgeable instructor to ensure excellent creations.

WHAT YOU’LL BE LEARNING

• How to select and blend the best spring essential oils for soap-making.
• Perfumery tips on anchoring delicate essential oils to ensure a fragrant bar.
• Properties of oils and basic soap-making safety.
• The benefits of using natural soap for overall well-being.
• Proper unmolding, cutting, curing (4 weeks) and storage.

THE COLD-PROCESS METHOD:

Cold-process is a traditional method of making soap that involves combining a strong base with fatty acids leading to a neutralization reaction called saponification, without the addition of heat. It's an excellent method for creative designs and requires a 4 week minimum curing period, during which the soaps become gentler and harden into beauriful and aromatic self-care gifts.

After purchasing your ticket(s) you’ll receive an email with a class waiver, location details, and additional information to get you ready for class! You’ll be able to reply to the email if you have questions.

MINIMUM AGE:

18 years. We’ll be using strong caustic lye which is designed for use by adults.

WHAT TO BRING:

You'll be provided with all the protective gear and materials needed for class. We just ask that you bring or wear a long sleeve shirt and closed-toed shoes.

ABOUT BRENDA:

I have been crafting natural body care for over 10 years and find the process to be a creative and therapeutic journey. Switching from commercial to natural soaps has been beneficial for my skin and well-being. However, I noticed that some naturally labeled soaps were made with synthetic fragrances, which overwhelmed my senses. I set out to create bars that were true to their natural scents and therapeutic. Essential oils can be adaptogenic and work with your nervous system to achieve overall balance in the body. They also smell amazing. I’ve faced some challenges and wins with using solely essential oils. I’ll provide my best advice to help you avoid some costly mistakes and give you the confidence you need to begin your truly natural soap-making journey!
