Learn basic emergency preparedness skills from the West Sacramento Fire Department.

This free academy is open to those that live or work in West Sacramento. You'll learn the basics of emergency preparedness, first aid, and dealing with emergencies. Be able to take care of yourself and your family if there is a disaster.

Graduates of this academy have the opportunity to participate on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT Team members continue to receive free emergency response training and have the opportunity to assist first responders in the event of an emergency.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to attend the academy?

18 and over please. 16+ if a parent/guardian also attends the academy.

What can I bring into the academy?

Feel free to bring something to take notes. Small snacks and water will be provided. We do practice some of our new skills, so you may wish to wear comfortable clothing.

Can I take the academy without joining the CERT Team?

Absolutely, we want everyone to be able to take care of themselves and their families should a large-scale disaster occur in West Sacramento. This academy will provide you with the tools and knowledge to help you survive!

Can anyone join the CERT Team?

Anyone who has completed the academy and is over 18 can join (those 16+ can join with a parent/guardian)! There are many ways to support our first responders, so we take all levels and physical capabilities.

What kind of a commitment do I have to make to be part of West Sacramento CERT?

There are no required time or participation minimums for our CERT team members. Particpate in any trainings, events, or deployments that suit your needs.
