Profesor Lichtenstein opowie o swoich badaniach nad awangardową twórczością Abrahama Stencla - zarówno o samym autorze, jak i metodologii prowadzonych badań, pracy archiwalnej i sposobie pisania w konwencji creative nonfiction.
Poniżej szczegółowe informacje o gościni, jej projekcie i wykładzie:
Professor Rachel Lichtenstein, one of the foremost chroniclers of Jewish East London, will give an illustrated lecture on her decades-long research into the life and work of A.N. Stencl (1897–1983), a Polish-born Yiddish poet who became active in Berlin before settling in London’s East End in 1936, where he emerged as a leading advocate for the continuation of Yiddish culture. Beyond presenting Stencl’s considerable literary output, Lichtenstein will reflect on her research methodology: how ethnographic practice, oral history, archival discovery, and long-term immersion in place have shaped her work. She will discuss the challenges of reconstructing the life of a marginalised Yiddish writer, the ethics of working with dispersed archives, and the process of writing Jewish history for a wider public audience. Her project has resulted in a forthcoming book, The Prince of Whitechapel; a digital platform hosting the complete run of Loshn un Lebn; a Yiddish cultural residency in Manchester; and a major archival collaboration with the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research and the Centre for Jewish History in New York, funded by Arcadia.
