This course is designed for anyone looking to expand their skills and tackle longer, more complex routes that require multiple pitches. Multi-pitch climbing involves climbing a route that is longer than a single rope length, with each section known as a pitch. This type of climbing requires advanced rope management, anchor building and communication skills. Located at Windsor Crag in Christchurch.
Dates and Timings:
Saturday 22 & 23 Feb 2025: 8am - 5pm
Pre-requisites:
NZAC Member (non members are welcome to apply but must join the NZAC in order to be accepted onto the course - there are no exceptions)
Under 18 must have parental/guardian permission and must be at least 16 to attend.
This course is suitable for those who have a sport climbing background - know how to sport lead climb, lead belay and abseil (this is NOT a beginners course).
What will be taught:
Multi-pitch sport leading
Setting anchors for multipitch
Managing the anchor station
Swinging leads
Belaying consideration including guide mode
Multipitch descents
Rope management
Self rescue techniques
Lowering from guide mode
3:1 assisted hoist to get through tough sections
Emergency lowering situation
Equipment Required:
Harness
Climbing helmet
Rock shoes
ATC type belay device (with guide mode)
Large locking biner
Personal safety/anchor chain
3 x locking biner
Short ( 1.3 to 1.4 metre total untied length )
Large (1.9 metres total untied length) prusik
120cm sewn sling,
Snapgate biner
Equipment can be purchased at Aspiring Safety, Bivouac or Further Faster and all give NZAC members discounts.
Cost
$400 will cover two days of instruction at a 1:4 ratio by qualified, experienced Instructors, quick draws, ropes and anchor setup equipment.
Refund
A full refund will only be given for genuine reason if withdrawing from the course or if we have enough time to find a replacement for your spot.
