THE SHOW

Kick off your Halloween right, with an evening of spine-tingling tales told by five nationally known storytellers; including three-time Emmy Award winner Bobby Norfolk along with Greg Carr, Beverly Brennan, Sherry Norfolk and Ken Haller. Also included are pieces of eerie poetry, a few spooky songs, and a bit of Halloween humor.

This show is for older students, ages 12 through adults. We highly encourage you to buy tickets online (scroll down) as this event may sell out quickly. The show will last approximately two hours and includes an intermission.


THE ARTISTS

Bobby Norfolk is an internationally acclaimed storyteller, teaching artist, and three-time Emmy Award winner. A recipient of multiple Parents’ Choice Awards and the National Storytelling Network’s Oracle Award, he is recognized as one of America’s leading story educators and performers. A native of North St. Louis, Bobby began his storytelling career at the St. Louis Storytelling Festival in 1979 and went on to host the Emmy-winning CBS series Gator Tales. His energetic performances blend humor, animation, sound effects, and expressive storytelling to engage audiences of all ages.

Beverley Brennan is a celebrated humorist, storyteller, singer, writer, and director known for performances that are both poignant and laugh-out-loud funny. She served as Director of Speech and Theatre at Harris-Stowe State University for 22 years and spent 20 years working in St. Louis Public Schools. An accomplished educator and performer, Beverley brings her engaging, animated, and creative storytelling style to audiences of all ages.

Ken Haller is a St. Louis-based actor, writer, director, pediatrician, teacher, activist, and advocate. He has performed in New York, Chicago, and St. Louis, including his own short play Surprise! at the annual Briefs festival. He has created and performed three acclaimed cabaret shows and was named Best Cabaret Performer in St. Louis in 2015. Ken has also directed cabaret productions for other performers and served as President of PROMO, Missouri’s statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization.

Sherry Norfolk is an internationally acclaimed storyteller, teaching artist, workshop leader, consultant, and keynote speaker. A professional storyteller since 1981, she captivates audiences with performances filled with rhythm, movement, multiple voices, humor, and interactive participation. Her rich repertoire of folktales from around the world brings stories vividly to life. Sherry also leads engaging workshops that demonstrate storytelling as a powerful tool for educators and a dynamic way to connect audiences with learning.

Gregory S. Carr is an instructor of Speech and Theatre at Harris-Stowe State University and an accomplished director, playwright, and writer. His plays Johnnie Taylor Is Gone and A Colored Funeral have been produced at Cleveland’s historic Karamu House. His newest play, Tinderbox, explores the events surrounding the East St. Louis Race Riots of 1917. Gregory is also developing several superhero-themed screenplays, including Watch Night, Fleur de Lis, and The Daguerreotypes.


THE SPACE

The WEvent Space is a distinctive venue located in the heart of the Tower Grove South neighborhood, set within a beautifully restored church. Embracing the spirit of its historic roots, the space provides a laid-back, welcoming setting for a wide array of local live acts. Central to its mission is the WEConcert Series—an ongoing effort to reestablish the former church as a vibrant hub and gathering place for the community. Through music, art, and connection, WEvent Space invites all to be part of a shared creative experience in one of the neighborhood’s most unique venues.
