inspired by the work of Ukrainian poet and dissident, Vasyl Stus.
(followed by performance to watch or participate)
Learn how to be instantly inspired to write or perform poetry at any time you choose, using simple techniques from internationally recognised improvisation specialist, Nick Byrne.
In the workshop, we'll use the life and poetry of Soviet-era Ukrainian poet and dissident, Vasyl Stus, as inspiration, as we generate beautiful language spontaneously, to recite or to seed something we might work into a finished written work.
Whilst you'll learn about Stus and connect with the Ukrainian cause, generally, you will find this workshop to be a lot of fun, too!
The workshop is in the fabulous new upstairs venue opened by Smith's Alternative, last year, but if you want to stay around until the associated 7:00pm show, "Dissidence", we'll be downstairs in the main performance room to see documentary footage of Stus, read some of his poetry (you can be part of the performance, if you wish), and improvise some, too!
