Royal Northern Sinfonia takes the stage with one of classical music’s hidden gems – rarely heard, quietly brilliant, and well worth discovering.Louis Spohr’s Nonet in F major doesn’t turn up on concert programmes all that often – which is a shame, because it’s a proper treat. Written for nine players (winds and strings together), it’s chamber music on a grander scale: full of lush textures, lyrical tunes, and playful twists. Think of it as sitting somewhere between Mozart’s charm and Brahms’s richness – with plenty of Spohr’s own flair thrown in. It dances, it sings, and every instrument gets its moment in the spotlight.
